There are roughly 40-60 Santa Catarina guinea pigs left in the world, according to scientists at the IUCN who have identified 100 species they fear will be allowed to die out as they have no obvious benefits for humans. The list also includes the Amsterdam albatross, Sumatran rhino and Attenborough’s pitcher plant.
